Houston, Texas – University of Houston student and member of United We Dream Action, Katia Escobar, was featured in a live Cheddar News segment spotlighting young changemakers fighting for climate justice, immigrant justice, voting rights, and more.

In her interview, Katia shared why she took to organizing for change for herself and millions of undocumented people nationwide. Katia applied to DACA for the first time last year but because of a court ruling by judge Hanen in Texas, has not had her application processed. In the interview, Katia speaks about making the decision to publicly share her immigration status, taking action in D.C. to demand citizenship legislation, and what advice she would give to other undocumented young people whose lives are on the line.

“Right now, the more [Senate Democrats wait]…millions of undocumented families are left vulnerable to detention and deportation. Lives are on the line. Families are continuing to be separated and it’s very important for [Congress] to remember that these decisions are vital for the livelihood of many.”

Katia’s message is clear: Senate leadership must hold true to their promises to deliver citizenship for millions. They have all the power to do so this year.
