Washington, D.C. – United We Dream Action (UWDA) is endorsing Wanika Fisher for Prince George’s County Council – District 2. Wanika Fisher is the daughter of immigrants from Nigeria and South Africa, who learned the value of supporting one another and community service from an early age. Given her past work, she has proved that she will continue to work to be a pro-immigrant champion in Prince George’s County.
Michelle Ming, Political Director for United We Dream Action, said:
“As the daughter of immigrants from Nigeria and South Africa, Wanika Fisher talks the talk and walks the walk. She knows what our community needs and has an intersectional understanding of what it means to be a pro-immigrant champion. United We Dream Action is excited to endorse a champion for immigrant working families like Wanika Fisher. As a state legislator, she fought hard to ensure all immigrants – regardless of immigration status – were included in Maryland’s COVID relief package through the earned income tax credit. She also sponsored a bill to increase safety by ensuring that the state of Maryland does not support nor fund federal immigration enforcement to separate community members.
United We Dream Action is committed to fighting all the way up and down the ballot for our communities. We recognize that winning local elections is critical to building political power, holding elected officials to their promises, and enacting policy changes that directly impact immigrants’ everyday lives. By having Wanika Fisher representing one of the most diverse districts in the country, we get one step closer to achieving a Prince George’s County that works for all immigrants, Black and brown people, young people, and queer people.”
