Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Bernie Sanders won the Democratic New Hampshire primary, showing that voters are eager for candidates with progressive values.

Cristina Jiménez, Co-Founder and Executive Director of United We Dream Action, said:

“Yesterday, New Hampshire signaled to the rest of the country that they are ready for bold, progressive policies that put people first. By voting for Senator Bernie Sanders, the voters rejected outdated policies that have neglected our communities.

Young people in New Hampshire also largely voted for a visionary agenda for the future of our country. To win in November, we need to energize a broad base of progressive voters, including youth, people of color, and LGBTQ people.

Sanders’ immigration proposal calls for a stop on deportations, an end to for-profit immigrant detention and would break up the deportation force. We are building a new national consensus focused on the humanity of immigrants. Every presidential candidate should work to embrace immigration plans that allow people to be Free To Stay, and Free To Move.

Earlier this year, members of United We Dream Action were in Iowa to demand Vice President Biden make real commitments to our immigrant community and stop deportations. We know that simple departures from Trump’s immigration policies of hate and division aren’t enough. Our communities need policies that help people without hurting people. ”

United We Dream Action is the leading national network fighting for dignity and justice led by immigrant youth and allies. We are a dynamic community of thousands of immigrant youth nationwide who build independent political power for those directly impacted by injustice. We organize and take action to win victories so that all people can be safe and thrive.
